Baba Wande’s Ti Oluwa Nile returns as Asiyanbi

Aroba Groove, the dynamic production company, is gearing up for an exciting new stage show titled “ASIYANBI: Ti Oluwa Ni Ile.”
Founded by Ambassador Alfred Oladotun Taylor, Asoju Asa Ile Oodua and a valuable asset in the Ooni of Ife’s kingdom, this global cultural organization is on the brink of making history with its iconic stage play.

Based on the Yoruba film “Ti Oluwa Nile” by the renowned producer and actor Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, also known as Baba Wande, the play features an illustrious cast including Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, Jude Chukwuka, Aisha Lawal, Ozain, Iya Mufu, Layi Wasabi Lawyer, Yaw, Agba Inaki, and others, bringing this timeless story to life on stage.

Executive producer Oladotun Taylor expresses his anticipation for “ASIYANBI: Ti Oluwa Ni Ile,” aiming to push the boundaries of artistic expression and transform stage theater. With Shola Balogun as the writer and Ropo Ewenla directing, the production promises to captivate audiences with its unique interpretation of the gripping narrative.

As the debut of ‘ASIYANBI: Ti Oluwa Ni Ile’ approaches, executive producer Oladotun Taylor emphasizes the enduring significance of this beloved story, highlighting its ability to resonate with audiences across generations. While the class of people popularly called “Gen Z” may not recall the epoch when the story was a blockbuster, its lessons and values are evergreen.

Project Coordinator and Supervisory Producer Akindeji Ibitayo, speaking at a recent press conference, explains that the stage production aims to retell compelling African stories and histories in an engaging manner. He emphasizes the timeliness of the project, coinciding with Nigeria’s forthcoming 25-year milestone of continuous democracy, offering a fresh perspective on ‘Ti Oluwa Nile.’

The narrative of ‘Ti Oluwa Nile’ revolves around themes of deceit, greed, and traditional values, as individuals conspire to illegally sell ancestral land. As the community unites against this plot and the oracle intervenes, the chief faces a series of trials that test his destiny and societal standing, leading to a climactic confrontation that will shape his future.

Originally written in 1987 and adapted into a cinematic masterpiece in 1993, ‘Ti Oluwa Nile’ has captivated audiences with its exploration of deception and justice. Through their upcoming stage production, Aroba Groove seeks to breathe new life into this timeless tale, promising a vibrant and dynamic theatrical experience for all.
